The White Sox scored twice in the opening inning against Mize. Tim Anderson reached on an infield single and moved up on a groundout. Yasmani Grandal's single to right brought him in and Grandal scored on Brian Goodwin's triple to center.
The Tigers stranded two runners in the first, as Miguel Cabrera popped out and Jeimer Candelario struck out. Lynn got into a similar jam in the fourth before retiring Daz Cameron on a grounder and Harold Castro on a strikeout.
Detroit scored a run in the fifth. Jake Rogers and Baddoo hit back-to-back, one-out singles. Rogers scored on Jonathan Schoop's long fly ball.
Lynn walked two batters in the sixth but was aided by left fielder Vaughn's diving grab of a Cameron liner before striking out Rogers to end the inning.
The White Sox made it 3-1 in the seventh. Vaughn led off against Erasmo Ramirez with a double. Burger reached on a double, his first major league hit, that Cameron lost in the lights but Vaughn held up at third. Vaughn scored on Mendick's sacrifice fly.
Vaughn drilled his eighth homer of the season off Bryan Garcia in the ninth. That sparked a five-run outburst. After Mendick singled in a run, Sheets delivered his long ball against Buck Farmer.
