Franmil Reyes belted a three-run homer in the first inning and added a two-run single in the sixth to propel the host Cleveland Indians to a 9-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
The five-RBI performance was the third of Reyes' career. He drove in five runs in Cleveland's 14-2 victory at the St. Louis Cardinals on Aug. 28, 2020, and again this season in the Indians' 9-8 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on July 7.
Cleveland's Jose Ramirez homered to lead off the eighth inning, marking a team-leading 28th time he went deep this season and second in as many games. The blast capped the Indians' 15-hit barrage.
Myles Straw (three hits) and Amed Rosario ripped back-to-back RBI doubles in the second inning. Bradley Zimmer added a run-scoring single in the sixth.
Sam Hentges worked four innings before being replaced by Trevor Stephan (2-0), who allowed one hit and struck out two batters over three scoreless frames.
Straw and Rosario singled to lead off the first inning before Reyes deposited a 3-1 slider from Jaime Barria (2-2) over the wall in left-center field. Reyes' homer was his 22nd of the season and second in as many games.
Cleveland padded its lead in the second inning after Yu Chang scored on Straw's two-out double to left field. Straw didn't stay on second base for long as Rosario sent a first-pitch fastball from Barria to center field for a double to stake the Indians to a 5-0 advantage.
The Angels trimmed the deficit in the third inning. Kurt Suzuki singled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and a base hit by Shohei Ohtani before coming home on David Fletcher's single to right field.
Cleveland thwarted any bid for a comeback in the sixth inning. Reyes' single to left field plated both Straw and Rosario before Zimmer's RBI single scored Ramirez to give the Indians an 8-1 lead.
Los Angeles' Jose Marte gave up one hit and struck out four in two innings of relief in his major league debut.
