Johnny Field doubled and singled in a six-run second inning Saturday night, propelling the Minnesota Twins to an 8-3 win over the Chicago White Sox in Minneapolis.
It was the fifth straight win for the Twins.
Right-hander Kyle Gibson (10-13) became a double-digit winner for the fourth time in the last five seasons, limiting the White Sox to one run and three hits in six innings.
Gibson struck out Yoan Moncada and Yolmer Sanchez to start the game, bringing the White Sox's single-season whiff total as a team to a record 1,572. The Milwaukee Brewers had set the previous mark last year.
The White Sox (62-99) struck out seven more times in the contest. They need a win Sunday to avoid losing 100 games for the first time since they finished 56-106 in 1970.
The Twins (77-84) led 2-1 before their outburst in the second, which started when Field led off the inning with a double off White Sox starter Carlos Rodon (6-8).
Joe Mauer and Jorge Polanco had RBI singles, and Willians Astudillo a run-scoring double before the inning's final three runs came across on a bases-loaded walk to Tyler Austin, a sacrifice fly by Jake Cave and Field's second hit of the inning, a single.
Rodon was pulled six batters into the inning, having not retired any of them. He was charged with eight runs in one-plus inning, his shortest stint of the season.
The left-hander surrendered six hits and four walks and struck out two.
Cave finished with three RBIs, one shy of his season high, after starting his night with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning.
Gibson allowed a first-inning run on an RBI single by Omar Narvaez, then shut out the White Sox on just two more hits over the next five innings. He walked three and struck out seven.
The White Sox trailed 8-1 until scoring twice in the ninth. Moncada had a double, his second of the game, in the inning.
Polanco finished with three hits, while Field, Mauer and Astudillo had two hits apiece for the Twins, who have scored 42 runs during their five-game winning streak.
Polanco and Mauer scored two runs each.
In losing their fourth straight and for the seventh time in their last eight games, the White Sox finished with just seven hits, two by Moncada.
White Sox relievers Jeanmar Gomez, Aaron Bummer and Thyago Vieira combined to pitch seven shutout innings in relief of Rodon, allowing five hits.
