Travis d'Arnaud hit a go-ahead two-run single, Ryan Yarbrough allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings, and the visiting Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 Friday night.
It was the second win in a row for the Rays, but only their third victory in the past 10 games. The Blue Jays have lost nine of 14 games since the All-Star break.
Diego Castillo pitched a perfect first inning as the Rays' opener.
Yarbrough (9-3) replaced Castillo in the second and allowed four hits and a walk while striking out four.
Chaz Roe followed with 1 2/3 hitless innings, and rookie Colin Poche pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save in four chances.
Toronto starter Jacob Waguespack (1-1) allowed three runs, six hits and three walks in five-plus innings. He struck out two.
The Rays jumped on top in the third inning. Tommy Pham walked with two outs and came home on a triple by Austin Meadows on a grounder that went between the legs of first baseman Brandon Drury.
The Blue Jays tied the game in the fourth on a controversial play.
Justin Smoak and Randal Grichuk singled with two outs, and Freddy Galvis doubled down the left field line. Both runners crossed the plate, and Galvis continued to third when the ball bounced off the barrier before deflecting off the glove of Pham and into the stands.
Galvis was returned to second base on what was ruled a ground-rule double, and Grichuk was sent back to third. The call stood after a video review. Danny Jansen then flied out to end the inning.
The Rays took the lead with a two-run fifth. Willy Adames walked with one out and took second on Ji-Man Choi's single. Meadows walked to load the bases with two outs, and d'Arnaud followed with a two-run single to left. D'Arnaud was out trying to reach second on the throw home.
Tampa Bay's Nate Lowe (2-for-4) was the only player on either team to have a multi-hit game.
