Yoan Moncada homered and doubled twice and Ivan Nova allowed just two hits over six innings as the Chicago White Sox snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Saturday night.
Moncada also scored two runs to go with two RBIs, Adam Engel drove in two runs and Leury Garcia and Yolmer Sanchez each had two hits for the White Sox.
Nova (6-9), coming in off a four-hit complete-game 9-1 victory over Miami on Tuesday, allowed just an unearned run, walking one while striking out four. Nova has allowed six hits and one earned run in 15 innings in his last two starts. Evan Marshall, Aaron Bummer and Alex Colome combined to toss three one-hit innings of relief.
Byron Buxton doubled and had two hits for Minnesota, which saw its American League Central lead shrink to one game over the Cleveland Indians. The Twins, who hit seven home runs in winning the first two games of the series, also had their 11-game home run streak snapped.
Martin Perez (8-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings.
Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jose Rondon singled with one out, advanced to third on a single by Sanchez and then scored on a fielder's choice by Engel when Twins third baseman Miguel Sano threw wildly to the plate for an error.
The Twins tied it in the third when Buxton doubled down the left field line and scored when Moncada dropped what should have been an inning-ending popup by Jorge Polanco down the left field line.
The White Sox regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Moncada led off with a double, advanced to third on a single by Jose Abreu and scored one out later on a sacrifice fly by Welington Castillo.
Moncada hit his 20th home run of the season in the fifth to make it 3-1, a 432-drive to center. Back-to-back doubles by Garcia and Moncada to start the seventh extended the lead to 4-1, and the White Sox added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Engel.
