Tobias Myers threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings, but the Milwaukee Brewers needed a game-saving catch by center fielder Sal Frelick in the bottom of the ninth to hold onto a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday in Anaheim, Calif.

Behind Myers' performance, the Brewers took a 6-0 lead into the ninth. The Angels chipped away against Elieser Hernandez and Joel Payamps and got within 6-3, forcing Brewers manager Pat Murphy to summon closer Trevor Megill.

Megill entered with two on and two outs, then yielded a drive to right-center by Taylor Ward. Frelick leaped and reached above the yellow line to make the catch, robbing Ward of what would have been a game-tying homer. Megill got his 14th save.

Myers turned in his third consecutive stellar outing, following eight scoreless innings of one-hit ball against the Detroit Tigers on June 7 and six innings of one-run ball against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 12.

Myers (4-2) yielded just four hits and kept the Angels hitless (0-for-5) with runners in scoring position. He struck out six and walked two while making 90 pitches.

The Brewers scored single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead against Angels starter Griffin Canning. Christian Yelich hit a two-out solo homer in the first, belting a 94 mph fastball on a 3-1 pitch over the fence in right field for his seventh homer of the season.

In the second inning, Frelick doubled with one out, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a two-out wild pitch by Canning.

The Brewers added to their lead in the fourth inning, getting a little help from the Angels' defense. With two on and two outs, Jackson Chourio hit a sharp grounder into the right field corner.

The ball skipped past right fielder Jo Adell as he tried to field it off the wall near the foul pole, allowing both baserunners and Chourio to score. Chourio was credited with a double as Milwaukee took a 5-0 lead.

Chourio added a sacrifice fly in the sixth for his third RBI of the night.

Canning (2-8) exited after five-plus innings. He was charged with six runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out four and making 100 pitches.
