Jordan Bohannon had 26 points and tied his career high with eight 3-pointers as No. 5 Iowa dominated on offense and defense in a 102-64 home win over Nebraska on Thursday night in Iowa City, Iowa.
Bohannon, a senior guard who became the Hawkeyes' career assist leader during the Feb. 28 win at Ohio State, was 8 of 12 from deep to add to his school-record 3-point tally.
Iowa (19-7, 13-6 Big Ten) had its highest-scoring output since a 106-53 blowout against Northern Illinois on Dec. 13 while holding Nebraska (7-18, 3-15) to 33.8 percent shooting. It was its biggest margin of victory ever over the Cornhuskers and largest against a conference foe in 11 seasons under coach Fran McCaffrey.
The Hawkeyes led 48-26 at halftime thanks to nine first-half 3-pointers, five by Bohannon. His seventh put them up 64-36 with 13:48 to go, then he drained his eighth with 12:29 left; he had a chance to tie the school record, set by Chris Kingsbury in 1995, but missed on his final attempt with 11:41 remaining and subbed out a few seconds later.
It was Nebraska's second game since leading scorer Teddy Allen left the team, and the results weren't nearly as good as in Monday's 72-51 home win over Rutgers. The Cornhuskers turned it over 20 times, which Iowa converted into 25 points, and they were beaten 19-0 in fast-break scoring.
Iowa raced out to a 17-5 lead, hitting six of seven shots at one point. A 7-0 Nebraska run got it within 32-23 with 6:02 left in the first half before Iowa ran off 11 straight points to build a 20-point edge.
With the game such a blowout, none of Iowa's starters logged more than 25 minutes. The bench got plenty of run, contributing 40 points including 19 from freshman Patrick McCaffrey on 8-of-13 shooting.
The Cornhuskers were led by senior Kobe Webster, who had 17 points including five 3-pointers, while junior Lat Mayen had 14 points and 13 rebounds and sophomore Dalano Banton added 14 points and eight boards.
Nebraska closes out the regular season at Northwestern on Sunday, while Iowa finishes up at home Sunday against Wisconsin. The Hawkeyes clinch a top-four seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which comes with a double bye, with a victory against the Badgers.
