Washington star Isaiah Stewart is listed as a forward on the team’s roster, but that's only because there isn't room to list everything he does in a single game. The 6-9, 250-pound freshman looks to continue his impressive start Monday when the 22nd-ranked Huskies face Hawaii in the semifinals of the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.

Stewart’s versatility was on display again in Sunday’s 85-64 victory over Ball State after the New York native finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double in the past five games. Jaden McDaniels scored a game-high 22 points and Quade Green added 21 points and six assists for the Huskies, who switched from their usual zone defense to man-to-man Sunday after Ball State made five 3-pointers in the first 10-plus minutes. “It’s not the fact they played man-to-man that was hard,” Ball State coach James Whitford told reporters. “The thing that’s unusual about them is they have a center in Isaiah Stewart who can switch pick-and-rolls and guard your point guard at a really high level. He’s such a unique defender. They took us out of a lot of stuff because of that.” Washington has won two straight following a seven-point loss to Gonzaga but will need to be careful not to overlook Hawaii, which rallied for a 67-63 victory over UTEP in Sunday’s first round.

ABOUT WASHINGTON (9-2): The Huskies have been red-hot offensively since coming up short against Gonzaga, making 58.3 percent of their shots from the field in Tuesday’s 81-59 win over Seattle before shooting 56.4 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from 3-point range against Ball State. Green has led the charge while averaging 18.8 points on 65.8 percent shooting over his last four games. Coach Mike Hopkins has relied heavily on a six-man rotation that includes 6-9 forward Hameir Wright, who recorded 10 points and three blocks in Sunday’s contest.

ABOUT HAWAII (8-3): The Rainbow Warriors posted their first Diamond Head Classic first-round victory since 2015 on Sunday behind a season-high 17 points from freshman guard Bernardo da Silva, who was 8-of-9 shooting and grabbed five rebounds. Forward Samuta Avea added 16 points and eight rebounds, but leading scorer Eddie Stansberry was limited to seven points on 2-of-8 shooting in 38 minutes. Stansberry entered the contest averaging 19.7 points for the Rainbow Warriors, who are facing their second Pac-12 opponent this month after losing 89-64 to No. 10 Oregon on Dec. 7.
