Lions 26, Stampeders 22: Running back Andrew Harris recorded 117 yards from scrimmage, including a 40-yard touchdown catch, as host BC drew even in its season series with Calgary.
Tim Brown returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown for the Lions (5-2), who avenged a Week 1 road loss to the Stampeders and improved to 4-0 at home. Quarterback Travis Lulay was 16-for-28 for 223 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions and backup quarterback Thomas DeMarco ran for one touchdown.
Quarterback Kevin Glenn completed 22-of-38 passes for 199 yards and one touchdown for Calgary (5-2), which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end. Running back Jon Cornish had 73 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries, while defensive lineman Charleston Hughes made his third career interception.
Lulay found Harris 2:28 into the game to give BC the lead and Brown answered a 2-yard touchdown run by Cornish with 1:30 remaining in the first quarter to regain the Lions’ advantage. Glenn connected with wide receiver Marquay McDaniel for a 14-yard score 8:02 into the second quarter, but BC linebacker Adam Bighill recovered a fumble by Cornish 2:11 later to set up DeMarco’s touchdown.
Calgary kicker Rene Paredes converted 2-of-2 field goal attempts, including a 30-yard effort with 3:55 remaining in the fourth quarter to pull the Stampeders within two points. Defensive back Jamar Wall intercepted a Lulay pass at Calgary’s 1-yard line on the following drive, but the Stampeders were forced to concede a safety after two incomplete passes by Glenn.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Calgary SB Nik Lewis suffered a broken ankle late in the first half after catching a 19-yard pass. … McDaniel finished with seven catches for 75 yards. … BC travels to Calgary on Oct. 11 and finishes the season by hosting the Stampeders on Nov. 1.
