Alouettes 31, Stampeders 15: Jonathan Crompton threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Montreal defense shone in a critical home victory over Calgary.
The much maligned Crompton went 20-of-28 for 220 yards to pace the Alouettes (4-8), who moved into a first-place tie with Hamilton and Toronto atop the East standings. James Rodgers and Duron Carter had TD receptions while Tanner Marsh added a short scoring run for Montreal, which limited the Stampeders to 272 total yards and 15 first downs.
Drew Tate struggled to 15-of-30 for 152 yards and an interception but ran in a pair of scores as Calgary (10-2) saw its six-game winning streak snapped. The Stampeders remained four points clear of Saskatchewan and Edmonton atop the West Division.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Marsh put the Alouettes on the scoreboard with a 1-yard TD plunge two plays after Crompton found Carter on a 22-yard pass to open the second frame. Crompton connected with Rodgers on a 17-yard scoring strike with 4:38 remaining in the half, and Montreal overcame Tate's 1-yard touchdown run 22 seconds prior to intermission to carry a 15-8 advantage into the break.
Tate's 6-yard scoring run - capping a four-play, 54-yard drive - drew the Stampeders even early in the third quarter, but Montreal surged back in front on Sean Whyte's 18-yard field goal in the final minute of the period. A Calgary 2-and-out gave the Alouettes the ball back, and Crompton hit Carter on a 10-yard scoring connection to effectively put the game away.
