J.K. Dobbins ran for two touchdowns and 141 yards -- all in the first half -- as No. 5 Ohio State defeated Cincinnati 42-0 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Saturday.
Dobbins had scores of 4 and 60 yards to help the Buckeyes (2-0) to a 28-0 halftime lead in front of 104,089 fans.
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields was 20 of 25 passing for 224 yards and two touchdowns, and he rushed nine times for 42 yards and two scores.
Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder was 13 for 20 for 166 for yards and one interception.
Trailing 35-0, Cincinnati (1-1) reached the OSU 9 late in the third quarter but a Tuf Borland interception stopped the drive and OSU went ahead 42-0 on Fields' 5-yard pass to K.J. Hill.
Cincinnati nearly avoided the shutout, but running back Tavion Thomas fumbled into the end zone from the OSU 1 for a touchback with 2:35 to go.
Fields took Ohio State 41 yards to a 7-0 lead on its second possession. He ran for 12, threw for 10 to Hill, then rushed up the middle 7 yards for the score at 8:28 of the first quarter.
After Chase Young blocked a 32-yard field goal attempt by Cincinnati's Sam Crosa early in the second quarter, the Buckeyes went 87 yards in six plays for a 14-0 lead when Dobbins ran in from the 4.
Dobbins extended the lead about two minutes later with a sprint to the end zone from the OSU 40 after busting through the left side of the line.
Fields made it 28-0 with 1:53 left before the half with a 9-yard pass to freshman Garrett Wilson for his first career reception.
Dobbins' block enabled Fields to run for a 4-yard score late in the third quarter to make it 35-0.
Ohio State opens Big Ten play next Saturday at Indiana. Cincinnati hosts Miami (Ohio) University.
