San Jose State Spartans vs Arkansas Razorbacks Match Player Stats On Sep 21, 2019

DeJon Packer scampered 19 yards to score the game-winning touchdown with 1:13 left in the fourth quarter, lifting San Jose State to a 31-24 win over Arkansas on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.

San Jose quarterback Josh Love completed 32 of 49 pass attempts for 402 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. Tre Walker compiled 161 yards on 12 receptions.

With the win, the Spartans (2-1) of the Western Athletic Conference snapped a 13-game road losing streak that dated to November 2016. San Jose State had not defeated at Power 5 school since beating Stanford in 2006.

One week after throwing for 305 yards and three touchdowns against Colorado State, Arkansas quarterback Nick Starkel struggled, throwing five interceptions. Starkel did redeem himself with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Trey Knox to tie the game at 24-all with 2:56 left.

But the San Jose State offense came alive after being shut out in the second half, with Love leading the Spartans on a 75-yard, game-winning drive that took just 1:43.

Arkansas of the Southeastern Conference fell to 2-2.

San Jose State came into the game ranked 101st in the nation against the run (183 yards allowed per game), but surrendered just 131 yards on 32 carries.

The Spartans set the tone from the first play, with Love connecting with Bailey Gaither on a 50-yard completion. Love finished the 75-yard drive with a 3-yard toss to JaQuan Blackwell for a 7-0 Spartans lead.

Starkel, who finished with 356 yards and three touchdowns, connected with Mike Woods from 62 yards to tie the score at 7-7 near the end of the first quarter.

San Jose State led 24-7 at halftime thanks to three second-quarter scores: Nick Nash's 15-yard run, Matt Mercurio's 47-yard field goal and Love's 26-yard pass to Isaiah Holiness.

Connor Limpert's 48-yard field goal was the only score in the third quarter, as both teams' offenses stalled, making it 24-10.

After the teams exchanged punts, the Razorbacks used a misdirection play on fourth-and-1 from their own 29 to keep the drive alive.

Starkel then found Tyson Morris for a 30-yard catch-and-run to bring Arkansas within a touchdown at 24-17 with 13:10 left in the game.
