Anthony Gordon threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns as Washington State posted its first Pac-12 Conference victory of the season with a 41-10 decision Saturday against Colorado in Pullman, Wash.
Max Borghi rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and also had nine receptions for 57 yards and a score for the Cougars (4-3, 1-3 Pac-12), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Gordon completed 35 of 51 passes and Brandon Arconado made five catches for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Alex Fontenot rushed for 105 yards on 11 carries for the Buffaloes (3-4, 1-3), who suffered their third consecutive defeat. Quarterback Steven Montez was 16 of 30 for 129 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions, before hobbling off in the fourth quarter.
The Cougars had given up 143 points and 1,715 yards in losing to UCLA, then-No. 13 Utah and then-No. 17 Arizona State in consecutive games. Their defense limited Colorado to 320 yards of total offense.
WSU took a 21-3 lead in the first quarter.
Borghi opened the scoring on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Gordon, capping an eight-play, 69-yard drive.
The Cougars' Skyler Thomas picked off Montez in Colorado territory on the next drive, returning the ball 19 yards to the 25-yard line. Three plays later, Gordon hit Dezmon Patmon with a 22-yard scoring strike.
Colorado responded with James Sfefanou's 24-yard field goal.
But Borghi scored on a 47-yard run with 22 seconds left in the quarter to make it 21-3.
WSU's Blake Mazza kicked a 20-yard field goal with five seconds left in the second quarter, giving the Cougars a 24-3 halftime lead.
Colorado's Laviska Shenault Jr. scored on a 6-yard run midway through the third quarter to trim the deficit to 24-10.
Gordon found Arconado for a 44-yard scoring strike late in the third and hit Davontaveon Martin on a 1-yarder early in the fourth to extend the advantage to 38-10.
Mazza's 36-yard field goal with 7:28 left capped the scoring.
