Brock Purdy passed for 378 yards and three touchdowns and Iowa State scored the game's first 20 points en route to a 34-24 victory over host Texas Tech on Saturday in Big 12 play at Lubbock, Texas.
Breece Hall rushed for a career-best 183 yards, including touchdown runs of 75 and 30 yards, and also caught three passes for 73 yards as the Cyclones (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) won their third straight game.
Purdy, who completed 23 of 32 attempts, threw two touchdown passes to Charlie Kolar and one to La'Michael Pettway. Iowa State outgained Texas Tech 560-407.
SaRodorick Thompson rushed for two touchdowns for the Red Raiders (3-4, 1-3). Jett Duffey was 40-of-52 passing for 239 yards and one touchdown.
Texas Tech trailed by 13 at the break before dominating the third quarter and running 33 plays to Iowa State's four.
A 15-play, 90-yard drive stalled and Trey Wolff kicked a 22-yard field goal to bring the Red Raiders within 20-10 with 8:45 left.
But just 13 seconds later, the Cyclones were back ahead by 17 as Hall used a stiff-arm to break past Texas Tech's Douglas Coleman III before racing 75 yards down the right sideline for the quick-strike score.
The Red Raiders cut their deficit to 27-17 on the final play of the third quarter when Thompson scored from the 2 to cap a 16-play, 82-yard drive.
But Wolff was wide right on a 42-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and Hall later tacked on the 30-yard scoring run to make it 34-17 with 5:54 remaining.
Duffey threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Vasher with 1:28 left to complete the scoring.
Purdy passed for 308 yards and three touchdowns as Iowa State held a 20-7 halftime lead.
The first two scoring drives were both 80 yards and ended with Purdy connecting with Kolar for touchdowns. The first was a 24-yarder with 4:58 left in the opening quarter and the second was a 6-yard scoring pass with 12:25 left in the second quarter.
The lead grew to 20-0 when Purdy tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Pettway with 10:12 left in the half.
Texas Tech got on the board with 3:35 remaining when Thompson scored on a 6-yard run.
