Duke Blue Devils vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons Match Player Stats On Nov 23, 2019

Kenneth Walker and Cade Carney ran for touchdowns in the final 8 1/2 minutes, as Wake Forest pulled out a 39-27 victory against visiting Duke on Saturday night in a game played in steady first-half rain in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Duke's Damond Philyaw-Johnson returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, including one that allowed the Blue Devils to take a 27-26 lead with 9:34 remaining.

Walker put the Demon Deacons back on top with a 14-yard run, just 70 seconds after Philyaw-Johnson's second return for a touchdown. Carney ran in from 18 yards out with 3:24 remaining in the home finale.

Other than covering kicks, Wake Forest (8-3, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) was in control for much of the game, which marked the 100th meeting between the in-state rivals.

The Demon Deacons' Nick Sciba kicked four field goals, setting an NCAA record in the process. He has made 32 consecutive field goals dating to last season, breaking the record of 30 held by Washington's Chuck Nelson in 1981-82.

Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman rushed for 144 yards on 29 carries and threw for 284 yards and one touchdown. Walker gained 113 yards on 17 carries.

Kendall Hinton scored on a 62-yard reception early in the third quarter for the Demon Deacons. Hinton caught six passes for 189 yards.

Duke (4-7, 2-5) is guaranteed a losing season for the first time since 2016.

Wake Forest took a 13-10 lead late in the first half on Sciba's 34-yard field goal.

Earlier, Wake Forest failed to take advantage of Duke's fourth-down fumble in the first quarter, taking over at the Duke 26. The Demon Deacons were pushed back and ended up punting.

Later in the first, Sciba drilled a 38-yard field goal.

Philyaw-Johnson returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. It was the Blue Devils' first touchdown in seven quarters.

Duke went up 10-3 on AJ Reed's 30-yard field goal after Myles Hudzick's 21-yard punt return gave the Blue Devils good field position.

Newman ran 42 yards on a keeper for a touchdown with 8:14 to play in the second quarter.

Duke had three first-half first downs, with two of those in the final 30 seconds.
