Utah senior Zack Moss ran for a season-high 203 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown, as No. 7 Utah controlled Arizona throughout, winning 35-7 on Saturday night in Tucson, Ariz.
Moss carried 26 times as the Utes (10-1, 7-1 Pac-12) won their seventh consecutive game, rushed for a season-high 297 yards and held the Wildcats to 196 total yards on their Senior Night.
Utah needs to beat Colorado next Saturday at home to win the Pac-12 South. If it loses, USC will go to the conference title game to face North champ Oregon. Arizona (4-7, 2-6) dropped its sixth game in a row and will miss the postseason for the second consecutive season.
Utah led 14-0 at halftime before Moss scored on the first possession after the break, turning the corner on a run to the right and racing 41 yards down the sideline. Tight end Brant Kuithe gave the Utes a 28-0 lead with a 6-yard run with 8:08 to go in the third quarter, his second score of the night on a fly sweep.
Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley completed 19 of 23 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Utes held the ball for 39 minutes, 32 seconds.
Arizona's rotating quarterbacks, Grant Gunnell and Khalil Tate, combined to go 14 of 27 for 135 yards. Gunnell ran for a 7-yard touchdown with 1:50 to go to avoid a shutout.
Utah scored on its first possession with the help of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Arizona that gave the Utes a first down after a third-down sack. Kuithe capped an 11-play march with a 3-yard run with 7:39 to go in the first quarter.
The Utes' second possession was more of the same -- 10 plays, 72 yards -- as they established their superiority at the line of scrimmage.
But the score stayed 14-0 for the rest of the half as Arizona came up with two key defensive stops, despite giving up 291 yards in the half. First, the Wildcats stuffed Huntley for a loss of 1 on a keeper on fourth-and-1 from the Arizona 23, and the defense got penetration again on the last play of the half to stop Moss on a run up the middle from the 1.
