Eastern Washington Eagles vs Washington Huskies Match Player Stats On Aug 31, 2019

Jacob Eason completed 27 of 36 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns in his first start for No. 13 Washington as the Huskies cruised to a 47-14 victory against visiting Eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon in Seattle.

Redshirt freshman Richard Newton rushed 12 times for 91 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies. EWU's Eric Barriere completed 21 of 35 passes for 211 yards and a TD.

Eason, the 2015 Gatorade National Player of the Year at nearby Lake Stevens (Wash.) High School, was seeing his first game action in almost two years. He started as a freshman at Georgia in 2016 but was injured in the 2017 opener and Jake Fromm took over, guiding the Bulldogs to the national championship game.

Eason, who sat out last season after transferring to Washington, showed little rust, as the Huskies scored touchdowns on their first three possessions against the Eagles, who are ranked No. 3 in the Football Championship Subdivision coaches' poll.

On the first drive, the Huskies marched 55 yards in eight plays. On fourth-and-2 at the EWU 23-yard line, Newton took a direct snap and went straight up the middle for a touchdown.

After stopping the Eagles on downs at midfield on their next possession, Eason hit Andre Baccellia with a 50-yard scoring strike. Baccellia led the Huskies with 84 yards on five catches.

The Huskies' third possession also culminated in a 50-yard scoring drive, with Aaron Fuller making a one-handed catch in the corner of the end zone on a 7-yard pass from Eason to make it 21-0.

The Huskies went 80 yards on their first possession of the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead. Eason hit Chico McClatcher with a 10-yard scoring strike.

EWU got on the scoreboard with 57 seconds left in the first half as Barriere connected with Andrew Boston on a 64-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-7. Boston finished with six catches for a game-high 112 yards.

The Huskies scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter, on an 18-yard pass from Eason to Fuller and a 1-yard run by Salvon Ahmed, to take a 42-7 lead.

EWU's Antoine Custer rushed for a 4-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make it 42-14.

The Huskies added a 22-yard field goal by Peyton Henry and a safety for the final margin.
