Duke Blue Devils vs North Carolina State Wolfpack Match Player Stats On Oct 17, 2020

North Carolina State didn't allow a point in the second half of a 31-20 victory against visiting Duke on Saturday in Atlantic Coast Conference play at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C.

The Wolfpack overcame the loss of injured quarterback Devin Leary to win for the third week in a row going into another rivalry game next week at North Carolina

Leary, who suffered an ankle injury, was 14-for-24 for 194 yards with a touchdown throw and an interception.

Duke quarterback Chase Brice went 24-for-40 for 190 yards with a touchdown pass. He was intercepted three times, including by Jaylon Scott with about six minutes left after the Blue Devils reached NC State territory.

The Wolfpack (4-1, 4-1 ACC) converted on the ensuing possession with Christopher Dunn's 39-yard field goal pushing the margin to 31-20.

NC State didn't lead until Leary's 4-yard pass to Cary Angeline for a touchdown followed by Dunn's extra-point kick with 4:01 left in the third quarter.

Leading 20-14 in the third quarter, Duke (1-5, 1-5) was stopped on fourth down inside the NC State 1-yard line. It was the Wolfpack's third goal-line stand to prevent points in as many weeks.

Leary exited in the final minute of the third quarter with a left ankle injury. Backup quarterback Bailey Hockman threw a 9-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the fourth quarter, with receiver Thayer Thomas securing the deflected pass by pinning the ball on his helmet.

NC State linebacker Payton Wilson intercepted two passes.

Both teams blocked a punt and made returns for touchdowns in the first half in the first meeting since 2013 between the programs separated by about 20 miles.

Duke's Dorian Mausi scooped a blocked punt and ran 32 years for a touchdown.

The Blue Devils had a 17-7 edge after Jake Bobo's 8-yard touchdown reception.

NC State notched its touchdown off a blocked punt when Duke was unable to run out the clock in the last minute of the half. Max Fisher made an 8-yard return after Vi Jones blocked Porter Wilson's punt.

Duke responded and scored on Charlie Ham's 29-yard field goal on the last play of the half for a 20-14 lead.

NC State compiled more than 100 yards in first-half penalty yards, while Duke was assessed just one penalty in the opening half.

This was the first home game for the Wolfpack since it played its season opener Sept. 19 by defeating Wake Forest. This time, limited fans were permitted, with slightly more than 4,000 spectators on hand.
