Baylor Bears vs West Virginia Mountaineers Match Player Stats On Oct 03, 2020

Leddie Brown scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the second overtime and West Virginia beat visiting Baylor 27-21 on Saturday in a Big 12 contest at Morgantown, W.V.

After the teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, Tykee Smith intercepted Baylor's Charlie Brewer (23-of-38, 229 yards with three touchdowns, two interceptions) on the first play of the second extra session. The Mountaineers clinched when Brown (27 carries, 93 yards) scored for the second time in the game.

Jarret Doege went 30-of-42 for 211 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for the Mountaineers (2-1, 1-1 Big 12). With the loss, Baylor (1-1, 1-1) dropped to 0-5 all time at West Virginia.

In the first overtime, Doege hit Bryce Ford-Wheaton with a 6-yard touchdown on the Mountaineers' possession. The Bears answers with Ben Sims hauling in a 25-yard touchdown from Brewer.

Following a pedestrian collective effort from both teams for most of the third quarter, the Mountaineers used a methodical, 11-play drive capped by Brown's 1-yard touchdown dive with 1:37 left in the period to break a 7-7 tie.

Baylor appeared in good shape to potentially tie the game late in the fourth after recovering a muffed West Virginia punt return at the host's 27-yard line. However, John Lovett was stopped on fourth down from 1-yard out with 4:06 left in the contest.

The Mountaineers, though, were unable to run out the clock and Baylor got another chance. This time, the Bears converted on Josh Fleeks' 34-yard catch and run from Brewer to tie the game with 1:19 left in regulation.

West Virginia opened the contest with an impressive 15-play, 70-yard drive that took up 6:09. Doege went 7-of-9 for 51 yards on a drive he capped with an easy 1-yard touchdown run.

Baylor, which missed field goals of 46 and 48 yards and had a 51-yarder blocked in the first half, were able to cash in during the second quarter. Brewer hit R.J. Sneed for a 7-yard touchdown pass with 6:51 left in the half to make it 7-7.

Brewer was sacked six times by the Mountaineers, and appeared to be injured during the second overtime. West Virginia won despite four turnovers.
