Boston College Eagles vs Virginia Cavaliers Match Player Stats On Dec 05, 2020

Brennan Armstrong passed for 287 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 130 yards and one score to lead Virginia to a 43-32 victory over Boston College in Atlantic Coast Conference play Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.

It was the fourth consecutive win for the Cavaliers (5-4, 4-4 ACC), who had lost all six previous meetings with the Eagles (6-5, 5-5).

Armstrong completed 19 of 27 passes, including one interception, and Virginia generated a season-high 549 yards of offense.

Boston College played without starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec and leading rusher David Bailey due to injuries. Virginia announced before the game that six players had tested positive for COVID-19 and were unavailable.

Dennis Grosel filled in for Jurkovec and tied a school record with 520 passing yards, completing 32 of 46 passes with four touchdowns and three picks. Zay Flowers caught eight passes for 180 yards and two TDs and Hunter Long had eight grabs for 109 yards and a score.

Doug Flutie passed for 520 yards against Penn State on Oct. 23, 1982.

UVA took control with 16 unanswered points to open the second half.

Two plays after an interception in the end zone by Nick Grant, Armstrong broke off 60-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Brian Delaney added a 28-yard field goal and Wayne Taulapapa's 1-yard run stretched the lead to 36-17 with 13:16 remaining.

Grosel's 15-yard touchdown pass and two-point conversion pass, both to Flowers, pulled B.C. within 36-25 with 6:19 to play.

Keytaon Thompson put Virginia up 43-25 with his second touchdown run, a 43-yard dash out of the wildcat with 4:32 left. Grosel added a 10-yard TD toss to Jehlani Galloway with 2:01 left to complete the scoring.

It was the final game of the regular season for Boston College. Virginia plays next Saturday at rival Virginia Tech.

The Eagles led 7-6 after the first quarter thanks to Grosel's 45-yard touchdown pass to Flowers. The Cavaliers got 38- and 26-yard field goals from Delaney.

Virginia surged ahead 20-7 with back-to-back touchdown drives to start the second quarter, capped by Ra'Shaun Henry's 47-yard TD catch and Thompson's 10-yard scoring run.

Boston College trimmed its deficit to 20-17 with 10 points in the final 67 seconds of the half on Grosel's 36-yard TD pass to Long and Aaron Boumerhi's 35-yard field goal as time expired.
