Taulia Tagovailoa tossed three touchdown passes in a near-perfect outing, and Maryland routed FCS visitor Howard 62-0 Saturday in College Park, Md.
Tagovailoa went 22-for-27 passing for 274 yards for Maryland (2-0), which controlled the game from start to finish after knocking off West Virginia 30-24 a week ago.
Dontay Demus caught six passes for 128 yards and was one of eight players to score a touchdown for the Terrapins, who gained 227 yards on the ground, led by Tayon Fleet-Davis' 66.
Quinton Williams finished with 67 yards passing and an interception on 10-for-27 passing for Howard (0-2), which is from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Tagovailoa guided Maryland to touchdowns on each of its first two drives, the first ending on a 14-yard pass to Demus, then setting up a 17-yard Fleet-Davis run.
Tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo, freshman running back Colby McDonald and sophomore runner Peny Boone visited the end zone during the second quarter. Terrapins defensive back Jakorian Bennett intercepted Williams in the final minute of the first half, setting up a field goal by Joseph Petrino to hand Maryland a 38-0 halftime lead.
Tagovailoa connected with former five-star recruit Rakim Jarrett for a 36-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the second half. Reece Udinski relieved Tagovailoa on the next drive and promptly threw a 22-yard touchdown to Carlos Carriere.
Udinski, a graduate transfer from Virginia Military Institute, finished 5-for-5 for 73 yards.
Roman Hemby pushed his way in from a yard out to add to the scoring party in the fourth quarter. Hemby finished with a team-high 12 carries for 45 yards.
Maryland improved to 3-0 all-time against Howard. Saturday's final score was not quite as one-sided as the last time the teams met -- a 79-0 Terrapins win in 2019.
