Vanderbilt capitalized on a number of Florida mistakes and pulled a 31-24 upset of the visiting Gators on Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.
The Commodores scored a second-quarter touchdown on a muffed punt, and defensive back Jaylen Mahoney's interception set up quarterback Mike Wright's touchdown pass to tight end Ben Bresnahan.
Wright threw for three touchdowns and 108 yards for the Commodores (5-6, 2-5 SEC).
Richardson threw a 74-yard touchdown to Daejon Reynolds with 12:03 left in the fourth quarter, but Vanderbilt's CJ Taylor broke up his second two-point conversion of the day to keep the Commodores' lead at 28-18.
Wright was intercepted by Jason Marshall Jr. at the Florida 5, but the Commodores defense forced a turnover on downs at the UF with 4:59 left that led to kicker Joseph Bulovas's 27-yard field goal to extend the lead to 13.
Richardson hit Reynolds with a 16-yard score, but kicker Adam Mihalek pulled the extra point left to keep Vanderbilt's lead at seven points.
The Gators (6-5, 3-5) scored their first touchdown with 10:17 left in the third quarter after Richardson found Montrell Johnson Jr. with a 3-yard pass. Taylor also broke up the two-point conversion, keeping the score at 14-12.
Vandy marched downfield and Wright hit tight end Gavin Schoenwald with a 7-yard touchdown pass with 3:23 left in the third quarter.
Florida wasn't done giving. Richardson flung the ball to Thai Chiaokhiao-Bowman, who knocked the ball up in the air to Vandy defensive back Jaylen Mahoney.
One play later, Wright hit Bresnahan, who broke tackles down the right side for a 28-yard score.
Vanderbilt led 14-6 at half thanks to several uncharacteristic personal fouls and one huge turnover by the Gators.
The Gators forced a punt to open the game, then, converted a third-and-25 and a fourth-and-7 on Richardson completions to set up kicker Adam Mihalek's field goal with 8:21 left in the first quarter.
Vanderbilt answered when Wright hit wide receiver Jayden McGowan with a 10-yard pass over the middle for a score with 10:04 remaining in the second quarter.
The Gators answered with Mihalek's 44-yard field goal with 4:38 left in the period to get within a point.
Florida forced a punt on the next drive, and Vandy's Matt Hayball booted it over cornerback Jason Marshall Jr.'s head. Marshall tried to field it over his head, fumbled it into the end zone and long snapper Wesley Schelling emerged with the ball at the bottom of the pile for a Commodore touchdown.
