Quarterback Kenny Hill threw for five touchdowns and 278 yards Saturday night as No. 4 TCU cruised to a 43-0 Big 12 Conference shutout of overmatched Kansas at Amon Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
Hill, who completed 19 of 26 passes for the Horned Frogs (7-0, 4-0 Big 12), helped turn the game into a blowout in the third quarter's first six minutes. He found Jalen Reagor and Tra Williams for scoring strikes of 15 and 26 yards, respectively.
KaVontae Turpin capped the scoring with a 90-yard punt return at the 7:14 mark of the third, a play on which he gave ground to the 3-yard line, broke multiple tackles and then outraced the last possible tackler for the final 70 yards.
The Jayhawks (1-6, 0-4) never came close to scoring in suffering their 44th straight road loss, dating to 2009. They started the fourth quarter with minus-six yards of offense and needed a late surge to finish with 21 total yards. Kansas picked up four first downs for the night, two via penalty.
The game was played with a mostly continuous running clock for the last 12 minutes in order to finish it before a cell of severe thunderstorms hit the area. The clock only stopped for TV timeouts, change of possession and penalties. It ran on incomplete passes.
TCU started the scoring just over six minutes into the game. Hill found Desmon White for a 6-yard touchdown pass that capped an eight-play, 71-yard drive.
Kicker Jonathan Song upped the lead to 10-0 at the 1:45 mark of the first quarter with a 19-yard field goal to finish a 12-play drive that chewed up nearly 5 1/2 minutes.
Hill increased the advantage to 17 points with 9:01 remaining in the first half, connecting with Reagor on a 22-yard scoring strike. That scoring drive only had to cover 35 yards after a short punt set the Horned Frogs up on the fringe of field goal range.
Hill capped a 208-yard, three-score first half when he found John Diarse on a fly pattern down the left sideline. Diarse broke a couple of tackles on his way to a 67-yard touchdown at the 4:54 mark for a 24-0 cushion.
The halftime stats were even more lopsided than the score. TCU outgained the Jayhawks 305-3, permitting Kansas only one first down.
