Baylor’s high-powered offense, led by Terrance Ganaway’s career day, overcame a sloppy start in a 49-26 victory over Iowa State on Saturday at Floyd Casey Stadium.

Ganaway had a game-high 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns for the Bears (4-1, 1-1 Big 12), who fumbled on two of their first three possessions and trailed 7-0 early. But Baylor, which has scored 35 or more points in all five of its games, eventually got back on track.

The Bears scored on three straight possessions to take a 21-14 lead at the half, then extended the lead to 35-14 with 6:18 left in the third quarter on Tevin Elliot’s 86-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Robert Griffin III went 21-of-29 for 212 yards and a touchdown for the Bears, who finished with 614 total yards, including 402 on the ground. Griffin had 107 rushing yards — his sixth career 100-yard effort — and a touchdown. Glasco Martin also added a score.

The Cyclones (3-2, 0-2 Big 12), who lost for the second straight time after starting the season 3-0, racked up 424 yards but had six three-and-outs. Steele Jantz had 242 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Baylor suffered a bit of a scare early in the third quarter when Kendall Wright limped off the field after being tackled awkwardly. Wright, who came in as the leading receiver in the nation at 155 yards per game, had his ankle checked out on the sideline but later returned.

He finished with eight catches for 68 yards and a touchdown for Baylor, who evened the all-time series against Iowa State, 5-5-1.

James White had 148 rushing yards and a touchdown for Iowa State.
