Rodney Stewart rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another in his final home game, and Colorado defeated Arizona 48-29 on Saturday for the first Pac-12 victory in school history.
Senior Tyler Hansen passed for two touchdowns and caught a 14-yard touchdown from Stewart as the Buffaloes (2-9, 1-6 Pac-12 South) snapped a seven-game losing streak and avoided their first winless season at home in the 88-year history of Folsom Field.
Stewart finished with 181 yards on 24 carries.
Nick Foles broke school records for career passing attempts and yardage, but could not prevent Arizona (2-8, 1-7) from falling to 0-5 on the road. He finished 35-of-53 for 352 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Hansen’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Toney Clemons early in the third quarter put Colorado in front 27-10 for its first 17-point lead of the season. Hansen’s touchdown grab made it 34-10 later in the third.
Stewart’s scores were 5, 11 and 9 yards, the second giving the Buffaloes a 41-23 lead and clinching a joyous Senior Day with the team's highest scoring output of the season.
Sophomore running back Josh Ford scored his first collegiate touchdown, a 17-yarder with 2:12 left in the second quarter to give Colorado a 20-10 halftime lead.
Foles has 9,289 career passing yards, breaking the standard of 9,221 set by Willie Tuitama in 2008. He has 1,301 attempts, surpassing Tuitama’s 1,276 also established in 2008.
Foles also owns the second-highest passing yardage for a season in school history with 3,612 behind Tuitama’s 3,683 set in 2007.
