Junior running back Zack Moss established career highs of 211 yards and three touchdowns to help No. 23 Utah roll to a 41-10 victory over UCLA on Friday night in Pac-12 play at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
Moss topped 100 yards for the fifth time this season and 10th time in his career as the Utes (6-2, 4-2) piled up 325 rushing yards while winning their fourth consecutive contest. Junior quarterback Tyler Huntley passed for 138 yards and was intercepted once, and sophomore receiver Britain Covey threw a touchdown pass as Utah scored 40 or more points for the fourth straight game.
UCLA junior running back Joshua Kelley scored a touchdown and rushed for 90 yards after topping 100 in each of the four previous games. Senior quarterback Wilton Speight passed for 164 yards and two interceptions as the Bruins (2-6, 2-3) had a two-game winning streak snapped.
Speight started in place of true freshman Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who suffered an injury to his passing shoulder in last week's contest against Arizona.
Utah outgained the Bruins, 470-301.
Moss did much of his damage in the first half when he had 141 rushing yards and one score as Utah held a 17-7 lead.
The Bruins were up 7-3 after Kelley scampered for a 25-yard touchdown run with 4:15 remaining in the opening quarter.
Utah moved ahead on a double-reverse play in which the second handoff went to Covey, who tossed a 7-yard scoring pass to freshman tight end Cole Fotheringham with 8:58 remaining in the second quarter. Moss scored from the 1 with 4:28 remaining to make it a 10-point margin at the break.
Moss added a 1-yard scoring run -- with stellar second effort involved -- to increase the Utes' lead to 24-7 with 11:45 left in the third quarter. Junior running back Armand Shyne tacked on a 2-yard scoring run just 2:01 later to boost Utah's advantage to 24.
UCLA junior JJ Molson booted a 27-yard field goal with 5:22 left in the third quarter to halt a stretch of 28 straight points by the Utes.
But just over four minutes later, Moss scored on a 5-yard run to give Utah a 38-10 lead. Senior Matt Gay kicked a 49-yard field goal -- his second of the contest -- to increase the lead to 31 with 10:01 left in the game.
