Arizona State's Manny Wilkins passed for 199 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 60 yards and two scores in his final home game Saturday as the Sun Devils held off the UCLA Bruins 31-28 and maintained control of their destiny in the Pac-12 South.
Eno Benjamin rushed for 182 yards and a touchdown and N'Keal Harry had seven receptions for 100 yards for the Sun Devils (6-4, 4-3), who gained bowl eligibility and can claim the division title by winning their final two games against Oregon and Arizona, both on the road.
Benjamin has 1,295 yards rushing this season, the most in the Sun Devils' 40 seasons in the Pac-12 and the most since Freddie Williams had 1,456 in 1975. Woody Green holds the school season record with 1,565 yards in 1972.
UCLA's Wilton Speight completed 26 of 35 passes for a season-high 335 yards and two touchdowns in his third start of season, with Dorian Thompson-Robinson still battling an ankle injury.
Caleb Wilson had 11 receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns and Joshua Kelley rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown for Bruins (2-8, 2-5), who lost their third straight.
Arizona State had 480 yards total offense and scored on 60-, 85-, 75-, 76- and 80-yard drives. Wilkins' 1-yard run capped the 80-yard drive for a 31-21 lead with 3:56 remaining.
Speight completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Wilson to make it 31-28 with 1:57 remaining. Arizona State recovered the onside kick, but the Bruins forced a punt and regained possession at their 20-yard line with 1:33 remaining.
Arizona State sacked Speight on third down, and the Bruins were twice penalized for illegal procedure, which also required two 10-second runoffs, leaving 11 seconds on the clock. Time expired on Speight's incomplete pass at midfield.
