Chris Swain rushed for a career-best 126 yards and one touchdown and fellow senior fullback Quentin Ezell rushed for two scores to help Navy roll to a 48-10 victory over Colgate in the season opener for both teams at Annapolis, Md.
Senior quarterback Keenan Reynolds scored his 65th career rushing touchdown, fourth-most in NCAA history, and the Midshipmen racked up 356 rushing yards. Junior fullback Shawn White also rushed for a touchdown and sophomore outside linebacker Kevin McCoy had a fumble-return a Navy score.
Junior quarterback Jake Melville passed for 127 yards, one touchdown and one interception for Colgate. The FCS Raiders are winless in seven meetings with the Midshipmen.
Swain rushed for all his yards in the first half as Navy opened up a 31-3 halftime lead. After the teams traded field goals in the opening 10 minutes, Swain was handed the ball on third-and-12 and broke into the open and cruised down the left sideline with a career-long 52-yard touchdown to give the Midshipmen the lead.
Navy tacked on three touchdowns in the second quarter, beginning with a one-yard run by Reynolds. White scored from six yards out for his second career touchdown to make it 24-3 with 4:10 left in the half before Ezell rumbled 18 yards for his first career touchdown with 2:04 remaining.
Ezell added a 12-yard scoring scamper to increase Navy's lead to 38-3 with 1:34 remaining in the third quarter.
Melville tossed a 24-yard scoring pass to junior tight end John Quazza with 10:22 left for Colgate's touchdown before the Midshipmen answered with McCoy's 54-yard fumble return with 5:05 to go.
