Arizona State 45, Illinois 14: Taylor Kelly and Michael Eubank, Arizona State's rotating quarterbacks, completed their first 14 passes and accounted for four touchdowns as the host Sun Devils rolled over short-handed Illinois.
Kelly, who started, finished 18 of 24 passing for 249 yards and a touchdown. Eubank connected on 5 of 5 passes for two touchdowns and ran for another. Both Eubank TD passes went to Chris Coyle, who had 10 catches for 131 yards.
Illinois (1-1) played without third-year starting quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase, who missed the game with a sprained ankle. Reilly O'Toole got the start, but had little success, completing 10 of 14 passes for 54 yards. Miles Osei didn't fare much better. He led Illinois on one scoring drive, but was relieved after going 4-for-10 with a pair of interceptions.
The Sun Devils (2-0) led 28-7 at the half on the strength of Eubank's touchdown passes. Kelly added a TD pass to Kevin Ozier and Cameron Marshall scored on a 1-yard run.
Arizona State put the game away when it scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by D.J. Foster on its first possession of the second half. The touchdown, which increased the lead to 35-7, was set up by an O'Toole interception.
