Buffalo 26, Stony Brook 23 (5 OT): Anthone Taylor rushed for
118 yards and a pair of scores, including the game-winner from 6 yards
out, to lead the Bulls to a marathon victory over the visiting
Seawolves.
Joe Licata finished 27-of-48 for 193 yards and a touchdown for
Buffalo (1-2), which trailed by three when Taylor scored the winning
TD. Alex Neutz had 10 catches for 43 yards and a score for the Bulls.
Stony Brook (1-1) was led by Lyle Negron's 300 yards passing and two
touchdowns, including a 5-yard hookup with Malcolm Eugene with 29
seconds left in regulation to make to 10-10 and force the game into extra time. Eugene
finished with nine receptions for 110 yards and both Seawolves'
touchdowns, while Adrian Coxson had seven grabs for 101 yards.
Both teams had field goals in the first overtime, then Licata hooked
up with Neutz for a 3-yard touchdown in the second overtime to give
Buffalo the advantage. But Negron found Eugene from 10 yards out to send
the game to a third extra session.
The teams turned the ball over on each of their possessions in the
third overtime, and after the Bulls had committed another turnover in
the fourth session, Stony Brook kicker Nick Ferrera missed a potential
game-winner from 37 yards out - his third miss of the day. Ferrera atoned
for that with a 25-yarder in the fifth overtime, but Licata hit Alex Dennison with a 19-yard pass on the next play before Taylor ended it.
