Duke 35, Navy 7: Anthony Boone
threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns as the Blue Devils pulled
away for an easy home win over the Midshipmen.
Issac Blakeney had two of those
touchdown receptions among his five catches for 57 yards, while
Jamison Crowder had 10 catches for 88 yards. Duke (4-2) won the
yardage battle, 435-319, thanks to a 301-89 advantage through the
air.
Navy (3-2) was led by Chris
Swain's 61 yards on 13 carries. Keenan Reynolds completed 6-of-13
passes for 89 yards and an interception.
After a scoreless first quarter,
the Blue Devils took advantage of a missed field goal by Navy's Nick
Sloan, driving for the opening score when Boone found Blakeney from
27 yards out. The Midshipmen responded with a drive that was capped
by Darius Staten's 7-yard scoring scamper, but Duke took the lead for
good with 4:35 to play before halftime on Boone's 3-yard touchdown
pass to Max McCaffrey.
The Blue Devils got some
breathing room midway through the third quarter when Boone found
Blakeney again, this time from 18 yards out, for a 21-7 advantage.
Scoring runs by Jela Duncan and Shaquille Powell helped Duke cruise
from there.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Navy didn't allow
a score in the first quarter for the fourth time this season, as the
Midshipmen have allowed only three points in the opening quarter all
season. … Boone had been out since breaking his right collarbone
Sept. 7 at Memphis and was a game-time decision prior to this
contest. … Duke has now won three straight against Navy, though the
Midshipmen still lead the overall series 20-15-5.
