North Texas 30, Louisiana-Lafayette 23: Freshman Antoinne
Jimmerson took a screen pass from Derek Thompson and weaved his way 78
yards for the go-ahead score with 1:54 remaining as the Mean Green beat
the visiting Ragin’ Cajuns.
Thompson passed for 282 yards and two touchdowns - both to Jimmerson - as North Texas (3-4, 2-1 Sun Belt) came back from a 14-point deficit to snap a five-game losing streak to Louisiana-Lafayette (4-2, 2-1). Jimmerson also scored from 28 yards out on a swing pass in the third quarter to pull the Mean Green within 20-13.
Brelan Chancellor tied the game 20-20 late in third quarter on a 34-yard reverse before the teams traded field goals - the second a 47-yarder by Louisiana-Lafayette’s Brett Baer with 3:01 left. Thompson had his fifth straight 200-yard passing game and North Texas rushed for 242 yards, led by Brandin Byrd (88).
Ragin’ Cajuns quarterback Terrance Broadway passed for 265 yards and ran for 84, including a 75-yard touchdown run in the first half. Louisiana-Lafayette was without leading rusher Alonzo Harris (illness). Harry Peoples, who caught a 10-yard scoring strike from Broadway for a 20-6 lead early in the third quarter, also left with a shoulder injury.
North Texas drove inside the Louisiana-Lafayette 10-yard line twice in the first half, but settled for the first two of three Zach Olen field goals and trailed 13-6 at halftime.
