UAB 31, Florida Atlantic 28: Jordan Howard rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Ty Long booted a 24-yard field goal with three seconds left as the visiting Blazers survived a late rally in a Conference USA game.
Howard gained 167 yards on 35 carries as UAB (5-4, 3-2) snapped a three-game losing streak in the series. Cody Clements, who missed last week's loss at Arkansas with a shoulder injury, was 16-of-26 for 184 yards and a touchdown.
The Owls (3-6, 2-3) rallied from 21 points down in the fourth quarter to tie the game, but UAB went 80 yards - all on the ground - to set up the winning field goal. Florida Atlantic, which had only 46 yards of offense in the first half, got three touchdown passes from Jaquez Johnson.
FAU trailed 28-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Owls got a 16-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Alex Deleon and a 7-yard scoring strike to Lucky Whitehead sandwiched around a 5-yard scoring run by Tony Moore to tie the game at 28 with 4:03 to play. Whitehead also snared a 9-yard scoring pass from Johnson, which made it 7-7 midway through the second quarter.
The Blazers appeared to be in control as Howard scored on runs of 4 and 7 yards and D.J. Vinson (14 carries, 74 yards) scampered in from 32 yards. Clements hit Jamarcus Nelson with a 78-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to give UAB a 14-7 advantage en route to a 21-7 lead at the break.
