Rice 17, UTSA 7: Driphus Jackson passed for a touchdown and ran for a score as the host Owls cruised past the Roadrunners in Conference USA action.
Jackson went 18-of-28 for 213 yards and added 48 yards on the ground as Rice (6-3, 4-1) won its sixth straight game. Jowan Davis led the Owls with 121 rushing yards on 25 carries, while Mario Hull hauled in a TD catch.
UTSA's Austin Robinson and Tucker Carter combined to go 17-of-32 for 153 yards. Kenny Bias' 24-yard touchdown catch accounted for the only offense for the Roadrunners (2-7, 1-4), who allowed Rice to convert 12-of-20 third downs and control the ball for more than 41 minutes.
The Owls were particularly dominant in the first half, outgaining the Roadrunners 247-83 en route to a 10-0 lead at the break. They went 80 yards in 13 plays on the game's opening drive, capped by Jackson's 9-yard TD run - his first rushing score of the season.
Another long drive, this one a 14-play, 71-yard march, resulted in James Farrimond's 37-yard field goal which made it 10-0 early in the second quarter. Jackson's 8-yard strike to Hull pushed the advantage to 17-0 late in the third, while Robinson's fourth-quarter TD pass to Bias made the final score a bit more respectable.
