Old Dominion 38, Florida International 35: Satchel Ziffer's 28-yard field goal as time expired helped the host Monarchs finish off a dramatic rally.
Ray Lawry ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns for Old Dominion (4-6, 2-4 Conference USA), including one with 65 seconds to go to forge a 35-35 tie, while Taylor Heinicke threw for 315 yards and two scores. Fellonte Misher's interception following Lawry's second TD set up the game-winner for the Monarchs, who amassed 525 total yards.
Alex McGough threw for two TDs and ran for another while Anthon Samuel gained 137 yards and a score on 25 carries to lead the Golden Panthers (3-7, 2-4). Napoleon Maxwell and Jonnu Smith each had a TD catch for FIU, which gained 256 yards on the ground.
McGough's two scoring strikes and a pair of field goals by Austin Taylor allowed the Golden Panthers to turn a 21-7 deficit into a 27-21 lead late in the third quarter. Heinicke found Zach Pascal for a short TD pass at the end of the stanza to put the hosts up 28-27.
FIU responded with a six-play drive capped by Samuel's 26-yard TD run and the two-point conversion made it 35-28. Old Dominion was stopped on a fourth-down attempt midway through the fourth quarter but Lawry finished a game-tying drive before McGough's final pass was picked off by Misher at the Golden Panthers' 33 to set up Ziffer's decisive kick.
