Louisiana 42, Troy 23: Elijah McGuire rushed for 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the visiting Ragin’ Cajuns rallied to defeat the Trojans and spoil the final game for coach Larry Blakeney.
McGuire became the fourth player in school history to run for 1,000 yards in a season (1,165) while Alonzo Harris rushed for three touchdowns and 86 yards for Lousiana. Terrance Broadway completed 14-of-19 for 142 yards and ran for another 78 and a score for the Ragin’ Cajuns (8-4, 7-1 Sun Belt), who have won seven of their last eight games.
Brandon Silvers went 29-of-34 for 272 yards and three touchdowns through the air for Troy (3-9, 3-5), which did not score in the second half and was 3-of-11 on third downs overall. Blakeney, who announced his retirement last month, finished with a 178-113-1 record in 24 seasons at the helm of the Trojans.
Harris capped a 10-play opening drive of the second half with a 1-yard run and Broadway scampered 9 yards for a score with 33 seconds left in the third quarter for a 35-23 lead. Louisiana capped the scoring with 3:48 on Harris’ 1-yard run after an 11-play march.
Silvers connected with Bryan Holmes for a 28-yard scoring strike to give the Trojans a 9-7 lead in the second quarter before Harris answered with a 2-yard TD run. Silvers threw for scores of 17 yards to Teddy Ruben and 5 to B.J. Chitty, sandwiching a 75-yard TD run by McGuire, as Troy edged in front 23-21 at halftime.
