No. 6 TCU 42, Ole Miss 3: Trevone Boykin threw three touchdown passes as the Horned Frogs set a school record for points in a bowl game while throttling the Rebels in the Chick-fil-A Bowl at Atlanta.
TCU (12-1) took out the frustrations of being denied a College Football Playoff berth by holding Ole Miss to 59 yards, sacking Bo Wallace five times and forcing three interceptions en route to a 28-0 halftime lead. Defensive end James McFarland intercepted Wallace in the end zone and recorded a sack while Kolby Listenbee caught a touchdown pass and threw for another, Josh Doctson made two TD receptions and Aaron Green rushed for 67 yards and scored twice.
Wallace was 10-of-23 for 109 yards and was sacked six times while throwing three interceptions. The Rebels (9-4), who were prominent in the CFP picture before losing four of their final six contests, had their six-game bowl winning streak snapped while suffering their worst bowl loss in school history.
After Chris Hackett intercepted Wallace on the third play from scrimmage, the Horned Frogs reached into their bag of tricks when Listenbee took a lateral pass from Boykin and launched a 31-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Green. TCU took a 28-0 lead with two minutes left in the first half when Marcus Mallet nearly tackled Wallace deep in his own end zone and when Wallace tried to throw it away, McFarland made a diving stab for his first career interception.
The first half ended fittingly when Wallace limped off the field after being sacked by Terrell Lathan and the Horned Frogs didn't let up after the break, scoring on their third play from scrimmage. Listenbee went up between two defenders and hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass and Doctson's 27-yard TD reception came 28 seconds later - one play after Mallet forced and recovered a Wallace fumble - before Ole Miss' Gary Wunderlich kicked a 27-yard field goal with 7:18 left.
