Quarterback Josh Rosen passed for 267 yards, threw one touchdown pass and ran for another score to lead UCLA to a 42-21 victory over visiting UNLV on Saturday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
Soso Jamabo rushed for 90 yards on 11 carries for UCLA (1-1), which rebounded from a 31-24 loss to Texas A&M in the season opener. Brandon Stephens added 71 yards on 11 carries. Jordan Lasley had three catches for 61 yards and Ishmael Adams had four catches for 41 yards.
Lexington Thomas rushed for 112 yards on 19 carries for UNLV (1-1), which was coming off a 63-13 victory over Jackson State. Johnny Stanton completed just 11 of 28 passes for 153 yards with two interceptions. Devonte Boyd had five catches for 84 yards.
The Bruins took a 7-0 lead when Jamabo scored on a three-yard run to cap a 71-yard drive on UCLA's opening possession. The Rebels answered on their ensuing possession, driving 70 yards to tie the game on a 12-yard run by Thomas.
UCLA went up 14-7 when Jamabo recorded his second touchdown on a 23-yard run early in the second quarter. The Bruins extended their lead to 21-7 a few minutes later when Rosen threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Mossi Johnson.
Jamabo scored again on a seven-yard run to put UCLA up 28-7 midway through the second. UNLV trailed 28-14 at the break after Stanton threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Mekhi Stevenson in the final minute of the first half.
UNLV cut UCLA's lead to 28-21 when Stanton scrambled and scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter, but UCLA finally put the Rebels away in the fourth when Bolu Olorunfunmi and Rosen both scored on one-yard runs, making it 42-21.
