Mike Fafaul passed for 281 yards, leading UCLA to a 38-24 victory over Oregon State in a Pac-12 game on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
Jordan Lasley had five catches for 105 yards for UCLA (4-6, 2-5 Pac-12). Bolu Olorunfunmi led the Bruins in rushing with 65 yards.
Marcus McMaryion passed for 224 yards for Oregon State (2-8, 1-6). Artavis Pierce rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries.
Soso Jamabo fumbled on the third play of UCLA's opening possession. Oregon State's Manase Hungalu scooped up the loose ball and returned it 28 yards to the UCLA 4-yard line. Two plays later, Pierce scored on a 1-yard run to put the Beavers up 7-0.
UCLA then drove 70 yards on seven plays to tie the score on a 4-yard run by Olorunfunmi. The drive was highlighted by a 48-yard pass from Fafaul to Lasley.
The Bruins padded their lead when Jalen Starks scored on a 3-yard run with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. They went up 21-7 when Lasley scored on a blocked punt with 47 seconds left in the quarter.
Pierce scored again on a 3-yard run after a 39-yard punt return by Rahmel Dockery gave the Beavers the ball at the UCLA 16-yard line. The Bruins led 24-14 at the half after J.J. Molson kicked a 49-yard field goal with 11 seconds to go.
Oregon State cut UCLA's lead to 24-21 when Hungalu scored on a 40-yard fumble return midway through the third quarter.
The Bruins went up 31-21 when Starks scored on a 4-yard run to cap an 86-yard drive.
The Beavers got within seven on a 20-yard field goal by Jordan Choukair late in the third quarter, but UCLA's Randall Goforth returned an interception for a 40-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
