THE STORY:
After taking down last year's Sun Belt champion in its opener, Clemson plays host to another defending conference champion Saturday, albeit one from a small conference the Tigers have dominated. In-state opponent Wofford makes the short trip from Spartanburg, S.C., and comes in ranked No. 9 in the FCS coaches poll. Clemson leads the all-time series 10-3 and has won all six meetings at home. Wofford's last win in the series came in 1933, a 14-13 home win. The Tigers won the most recent meeting, 38-14 in 2001.

ABOUT CLEMSON (1-0): The Tigers overcame a sluggish first half to pull away for a 43-19 rout of Troy in their opener. Sophomore quarterback Tajh Boyd was solid in his first collegiate start, throwing for 264 yards and three touchdowns. He completed 13 consecutive passes at one point.

ABOUT WOFFORD (1-0): The Terriers started coach Mike Ayers' 24th season at Wofford with a 35-28 win over in-state rival Presbyterian. Eric Breitenstein posted his 11th career 100-yard rushing game against Presbyterian, rushing for 107 yards and a TD on 19 carries, and Jeff Ashley caught two scoring passes. The defending Southern Conference co-champions, the Terriers rolled up 352 rushing yards last week.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Clemson is 24-0 against FCS teams since that division was formed before the 1978 season. The Tigers have outscored those teams 893-145 and won all 24 games by 11 points or more.

2. Wofford is 1-12 all-time against FBS teams. The lone win was a 24-6 victory against Louisiana-Monroe in 2000.

3. Clemson has not lost to a team from the Southern Conference since it left the conference to help form the ACC in 1953, a streak of 39 games. Twelve of the Tigers' last 19 wins against the Southern Conference teams have been shutouts.

PREDICTION: Clemson 38, Wofford 17 — The Tigers hit their stride in the second half against Troy, and they'll hit the ground running this week.
