THE STORY: Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino appears to have assembled another offensive juggernaut and it will test New Mexico's improved defense when the No. 13 Razorbacks take on the Lobos. The Razorbacks blew out visiting Missouri State 51-7 last week, while the Lobos opened with a 14-10 loss at home to Colorado State. Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson was effective in his first collegiate start, completing 18-of-24 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns. New Mexico held Colorado State to 92 rushing yards to snap a streak of 14 consecutive games in which the Lobos had allowed at least 100 rushing yards. The Razorbacks won both meetings with the Lobos in 1983 and 1987.

ABOUT NEW MEXICO (0-1): The Lobos just missed giving third-year coach Mike Locksley his third win at the helm at New Mexico last week. The Lobos lost three fumbles, including one at the Colorado State 18 with 12 seconds left. They earlier lost a fumble at the Rams' 1. Quarterback Tarean Austin lost the fumble in the waning seconds to put a damper on an otherwise solid day. He was 20-of-31 passing for 179 yards and a touchdown and added 57 rushing yards.

ABOUT ARKANSAS (1-0): The Razorbacks might need to lean on Wilson. Already missing star running back Knile Davis, who was lost for the season to an ankle injury, and Broderick Green, who is out for the season with a torn ACL, the Razorbacks also could be without Dennis Johnson this week. That leaves a thin backfield led by junior Ronnie Wingo Jr., who had 43 rushing yards and 51 receiving yards last week. Arkansas' defense was tough against Missouri State, allowing only 163 total yards.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino's teams have finished in the top 10 in the nation in total offense seven times since 1994. The Razorbacks ranked ninth in the nation with 482.5 yards per game last season.

2. New Mexico is 7-47 all-time against ranked teams. The Lobos' last win against a ranked opponent was Oct. 25, 2003, when they beat No. 23 Utah 47-35 in Salt Lake City.

3. The Razorbacks have won eight straight games in Little Rock, which is tied for the fifth-longest home winning streak in school history. Arkansas is 164-65-4 all-time in Little Rock.

PREDICTION: Arkansas 41, New Mexico 13 - The Lobos have improved since last year, but they're not ready to compete on this level.
