Northwestern State @ Louisiana State preview
Tiger Stadium
THE STORY: No. 3 LSU will look to extend the nation's longest non-conference regular-season winning streak to 35 games when the Tigers host intrastate opponent Northwestern State. The Tigers' streak dates to 2002 and was extended by last week's 40-27 win over then-No. 3 Oregon in Arlington, Texas. LSU broke open a close game against last year's BCS runner-up by scoring 24 consecutive points. The Demons opened with a 24-23 win over Delta State. This is the first meeting between the schools since 1942, when Northwestern State was known as Louisiana-Normal. LSU leads the all-time series 10-0 and has outscored the Demons 417-0.

ABOUT NORTHWESTERN STATE (1-0): The NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Demons rallied from a 17-0 deficit to beat NCAA Division II Delta State last week. It was the second-largest comeback in Northwestern State's 35 years of Division I competition, ranking behind only a 23-point rally against Louisiana-Monroe in 2005. Junior college transfer quarterback Brad Henderson led the comeback after replacing junior Paul Harris, who later was suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. Henderson completed 13-of-14 passes for 210 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown pass. He completed a school-record 13 consecutive passes.
ABOUT LSU (1-0): The Tigers handled Oregon easily in spite of a lackluster performance by quarterback Jarrett Lee, who was 10-of-22 passing for 98 yards. Lee started in place of Jordan Jefferson, who was suspended indefinitely after turning himself in to police in connection with an Aug. 19 fight in a bar parking lot. Without Jefferson, the Tigers leaned on sophomore running backs Spencer Ware (99 yards, one TD) and Michael Ford (98, two) against the Ducks. Sophomore cornerback Tyrann Mathieu was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Tigers' defensive effort with 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
EXTRA POINTS
1. LSU is 29-1 in non-SEC games and 24-0 in regular-season non-conference games under Miles.
2. Northwestern State coach Bradley Dale Peveto served as an assistant on Miles' staff at LSU from 2005-08.
3. The Demons' next win will be their 500th since the football program launched in 1907. Northwestern State is 499-416-22 all-time.
PREDICTION: LSU 54, Northwestern State 6 - This one is no more than a tune-up for the Tigers' trip to Mississippi State to open the SEC schedule Thursday.
