Towson @ Maryland preview
Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium
THE STORY: Maryland’s eccentric uniform combinations have been a hot topic this season, but the Terrapins’ effort their last time out was even more of an eyesore. The Terrapins will try to take out their frustrations on Towson - which is located about 47 miles north of College Park - in their first-ever meeting with the FCS school Saturday. Maryland was inept on both sides of the ball in a 38-7 loss to Temple last week, prompting first-year coach Randy Edsall to call the effort “really embarrassing.” That humbling defeat should assure the Terrapins are ready for Towson, which is ranked 23rd in the FCS coaches’ poll. Meanwhile, the Terrapins are 10-0 against FCS teams, with their last win a 62-3 rout of Morgan State last season.

ABOUT MARYLAND (1-2): The Terrapins’ offense, the strength of the team, didn’t manage a first down until its third possession and held the ball for less than 20 minutes against Temple. The defense was run over by Bernard Pierce to the tune of five touchdowns, a Temple record.
ABOUT TOWSON (3-0): The Tigers, who have outscored their opponents 115-30, are ranked for the first time since 2007. They are one of five unbeaten teams in the FCS. But in their last three games against FBS opponents, the Tigers have been outscored 193-44.
EXTRA POINTS
1. Maryland’s NCAA-best streak of 139 games without a blocked punt ended last week.
2. The Tigers are 3-0 for the first time since 2006.
3. Maryland’s loss to Temple marked the first time an ACC team lost to the Owls since the conference’s inception in 1953.
PREDICTION: Maryland 47, Towson 3 – The Terrapins bounce back and head into the meat of their conference schedule with some much-needed confidence.
