Texas Tech @ Oklahoma preview
Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium
Last Meeting ( Nov 13, 2010 ) Texas Tech 7, Oklahoma 45
THE STORY: Texas Tech is reeling, while No. 1 Oklahoma keeps rolling. The Red Raiders lost two consecutive home games, while the Sooners have won their last three games by an average score of 55-13. Oklahoma, which is No. 3 in the first BCS standings, has a showdown at No. 16 Kansas State looming next weekend, but it can’t look past Texas Tech, which again features one of the most high-powered offenses in the nation. The Sooners can score a lot of points themselves, but the defense stole the show in the second half of their victory at Kansas last week, allowing only six total yards and one first down after the break. Oklahoma leads the all-time series 13-5, including an 8-1 mark in Norman.

ABOUT TEXAS TECH (4-2, 1-2 Big 12): The Red Raiders are coming off back-to-back home losses for the first time since 2006, having dropped the previous two games against Texas A&M and Kansas State. Texas Tech is having all kinds of problems on defense and has allowed at least 34 points in four straight games. The Red Raiders are balanced on offense, though, and it starts with quarterback Seth Doege, the Big 12’s leader in total offense. Doege has thrown a touchdown to nine different receivers this season, and four wideouts already have more than 20 catches. Tech is among the top 10 nationally in passing offense, total offense and scoring offense.
ABOUT OKLAHOMA (6-0, 3-0): The prolific combo of quarterback Landry Jones and wide receiver Ryan Broyles was clicking in the Sooners’ 47-17 victory at Kansas and Broyles became the NCAA’s all-time leader in career receptions (317) with a 57-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. That grab also made Broyles the Big 12’s career leader in touchdown receptions with 43. Oklahoma’s defense, ranked 22nd in the country, has looked sharper lately, sacking opposing quarterbacks 13 times in the last two games. The Sooners have won 32 straight Big 12 home games dating back to 2001.
EXTRA POINTS:
1. The home team has won seven straight in this series by an average of 21 points.
2. Texas Tech has lost its last seven games in Norman by an average of 24 points per game. The Red Raiders’ only win came in 1996.
3. The Red Raiders have thrown at least one touchdown pass in 68 consecutive games.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma 58, Texas Tech 28 - The Red Raiders can’t stop anybody right now, so this game should be no different. Texas Tech won’t be able to score enough points to keep up.
