Trevone Boykin didn't deliver a Heisman-like performance in TCU's first game but the senior quarterback has a chance to post some glittering statistics when the No. 3 Horned Frogs host FCS Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. Boykin is one of the frontrunners for the famed trophy but his showing in the season-opening win over Minnesota - 246 passing yards and one touchdown and 92 rushing yards and another score - paled in comparison to last season's pinball-like numbers.

TCU coach Gary Patterson was among the observers that felt Boykin's season debut was below standards. "I think everybody had high expectations," Patterson said on the Big 12 coaches conference call. "I think he had high expectations. I don't think he lived up to his own expectations." The Horned Frogs dropped a notch in the polls as well as the 23-17 margin against the Golden Gophers was closer than most experts expected. That should change against the Lumberjacks, who suffered a 34-28 loss to Northern Arizona in their opener.

TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1. LINE: TCU NL.

ABOUT STEPHEN F. AUSTIN (0-1): The Lumberjacks are winless in eight contests against Big 12 teams, including blowout losses to Kansas State (55-16) last season and Texas Tech (61-13) in 2013. Junior quarterback Zach Conque had 365 yards of total offense (297 passing, 68 rushing) against Northern Arizona while sophomore receiver Robert Sylvester had a career-best eight receptions for 75 yards. The defense is strong up front with senior tackle Donald Bryant (six sacks in 2014) leading the way while junior defensive end Kedrick Harrison recorded the squad's lone sack in the opener.

ABOUT TCU (1-0):
The defensive side is experiencing shortages after junior outside linebacker Sammy Douglas (unspecified) suffered a season-ending injury in the opener and news that senior defensive end James McFarland (foot) could miss the entire season. Senior defensive tackle Davion Pierson (unspecified) is in danger of missing his second straight game and senior defensive end Mike Tuaua (foot) is also ailing for a unit that received fine play from senior free safety Derrick Kindred (nine tackles, one forced fumble) against Minnesota. Senior receiver Josh Doctson had eight receptions in the opener and then had his fitness level criticized by Patterson and senior running back Aaron Green churned out 88 yards.
