Texas A&M, which began the season unranked, has moved up to No. 18 this week thanks to a pair of impressive season-opening wins over Arizona State (38-17) and Ball State (56-23). But coach Kevin Sumlin is far from satisfied as the Aggies prepare to host Nevada on Saturday in their final tune-up before starting SEC play next week against Arkansas in AT&T Stadium.

"We need to be a more consistent football team," Sumlin said when asked at his weekly press conference what areas his team needs to find improvement. "What I'm interested to see is improvement from a consistency standpoint to see if we can play at that level like we did in the first half with the ones again this week." Look for excitable Nevada coach Brian Polian to be on his best behavior for this one. Polian, son of 2015 NFL Hall of Famer and current ESPN announcer Bill Polian, was fined $10,000 on Tuesday for picking up two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in last week's 44-20 home loss to Arizona. He also was warned of possible suspension and a larger fine by athletic director Doug Knuth for any further offenses.

ABOUT NEVADA (1-1): The Wolf Pack, who opened the season with a 31-17 victory over FCS school UC Davis have struggled offensively and rank 90th nationally in scoring (25.5) and 99th in total offense (361 yards per game). Junior quarterback Tyler Stewart is completing just 59.6 percent of his passes and has thrown for just 322 yards and three touchdowns in two games. Senior running back Don Jackson, who gained 957 yards and scored seven touchdowns last season, is off to a solid start with 215 yards on 37 attempts (5.8 avg.) and two touchdowns.

ABOUT TEXAS A&M (2-0): Sophomore Kyle Allen, regarded by some scouting services as the nation's top prep pro-style quarterback prospect for the Class of 2014, hasn't disappointed by completing 25-of-39 passes (64.1 percent) for 324 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. His top target has been fellow Arizonian and explosive freshman Christian Kirk, who has 10 receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns and had a memorable 66-yard catch-and-run for a score in the opening win over the Sun Devils. The defense, which is in its first year under respected defensive coordinator John Chavis, had nine sacks and 14 tackles for loss against Arizona State and features two standout pass rushing ends in sophomore Myles Garrett and junior Daeshon Hall.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Texas A&M has won 18 straight nonconference games -- longest streak in the FBS -- dating back to a 42-38 loss in 2011 to then nonconference foe Arkansas.

2. Polian was special teams coordinator/tight ends coach on Sumlin's initial A&M coaching staff in 2012.

3. The Aggies have scored first in 35 of 41 games under Sumlin.

PREDICTION: Texas A&M 52, Nevada 13
