Memphis @ Bowling Green preview
Doyt L. Perry Stadium
The Fourth of July is long past, but there should definitely be some offensive fireworks Saturday when Memphis visits Bowling Green. The Tigers and Falcons are two of the top offensive squads in the country, with both coming off near-misses at setting their school records for single-game total offense.
Bowling Green got its first win of the season, upsetting Maryland with an offense that rambled for 692 yards - 14 shy of the school mark - while Memphis was nine yards short of a school mark with a 651-yard performance in a rout of Kansas. The Falcons' offense was triggered by quarterback Matt Johnson, who threw for 491 yards in the second-best passing performance in school history. The Tigers also lean heavily on their signal caller, Paxton Lynch, who threw for a career-best 354 yards and two touchdowns. Both teams have shown a penchant for giving up a lot of ground when on defense, though, so this game could rewrite the record books for both schools.

ABOUT MEMPHIS (2-0): With both teams this week possessing high-powered offenses, the Tigers will focus on limiting turnovers, something coach Justin Fuente has stressed to his team throughout the season. Against Kansas, an early miscue gave the Jayhawks the chance to take an early lead, something that could be fatal against a team such as the Falcons. "I think our guys understand the importance of not creating turnovers," Fuente said. "We will continue to work on it this week."
ABOUT BOWLING GREEN (1-1): While it may look to most like the Bowling Green defense didn't have a good game in the 48-27 victory over Maryland, coach Dino Babers saw it completely different. Babers pointed to the fact the Falcons were within seven at halftime despite scoring only six points in the first half, as well as four forced turnovers and eight Terrapin three-and-outs in the contest. "I thought the defense was outstanding," Babers told reporters. "I thought it was a fabulous performance by our defensive players and our defensive coaches."
