Texas Christian @ Iowa State preview

Jack Trice Stadium

Last Meeting ( Dec 6, 2014 ) Iowa State 3, Texas Christian 55

Third-ranked TCU has scored 50 or more points in each of its past five games and strives to go on another offensive splurge when it visits Iowa State in Saturday's Big 12 contest. The Horned Frogs rank third nationally in scoring offense (51.0) and total offense (615.5 yards per game) and are looking for their 11th consecutive conference victory.

TCU has won 14 straight games going back to last season and only defending national champion Ohio State (19) has a longer winning streak. Still, the Horned Frogs were passed by conference rival Baylor in the latest poll and coach Gary Patterson insists he's not worried about the rankings or style points. "Now I am just trying to win," Patterson said at a press conference. "I am not trying to be the No. 1 team in the nation. I am just trying to be an undefeated team and now I am trying to beat Iowa State. That is all we can control. We cannot control the voters or anybody else. I am tired of hearing about style points. It is hard just to win so we just tried to win." The Cyclones have lost three of their last four contests and were annihilated 66-31 by Texas Tech last Saturday.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2. LINE: TCU -20.5.

ABOUT TCU (6-0, 3-0 Big 12): Senior quarterback Trevone Boykin is living up to his Heisman Trophy-candidate billing with 2,103 yards and 21 touchdowns and he shredded the Cyclones last season for 460 passing yards and a career-best 559 yards of total offense. Senior Josh Doctson is one of the top receivers in the country and ranks second in receiving yards (877) and receiving touchdowns (10) and third in receptions (50) as well as fifth in school history with 151 career receptions. The Horned Frogs have struggled against the run -- allowing an average of 183 yards per game as well as 16 touchdowns -- and are banking that the return to top form by senior defensive tackle Davion Pierson (21 career tackles for loss) will spark a turnaround.

ABOUT IOWA STATE (2-3, 1-1):
Redshirt freshman Mike Warren has been electric with 574 rushing yards and an 8.1 average and he had 245 yards against Texas Tech, eighth-most in school history. Senior quarterback Sam B. Richardson has passed for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns against six interceptions, while sophomore receiver Allen Lazard has 24 receptions for 259 yards and also averages 16.9 yards on punt returns. The Cyclones have already matched last season's sack total of 15 as senior defensive end Dale Pierson has notched six and also has one of the team's two interceptions -- redshirt freshman cornerback Brian Peavy (team-best 32 tackles) has the other.

EXTRA POINTS

1. TCU holds a 5-1 series lead and rolled to a 55-3 victory last season.

2. Richardson has 45 career touchdown passes, five off the Iowa State mark held by Bret Meyer (2004-07).

3. Horned Frogs senior RB Aaron Green has rushed for 625 yards and eight touchdowns and has topped 100 yards in three of the past four games.

PREDICTION: TCU 55, Iowa State 27
