Western Carolina @ Texas A&M preview

With rumors regarding Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin's job security intensifying, the Aggies take a break from the rigors of the SEC schedule when they host Western Carolina on Saturday. Texas A&M has seen its once promising season go up in smoke with losses in three of its last four games.

Sumlin appears safe for now, but offensive coordinator Jake Spavital will be released after the season at the latest, according to a Fox Sports report. Who will play under center is a mystery as Texas A&M has started two quarterbacks this season - Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray - and even used junior college transfer Jake Hubenak. None have provided the answer as the Aggies have averaged just 16 points over their last four contests. Western Carolina is coming off a 48-10 thrashing of Furman in its home finale.

ABOUT WESTERN CAROLINA (6-3): This will be the second SEC team the Catamounts have faced this season, as Tennessee hammered them 55-10 in the third week of the season. This also is the longest road trip in program history for the Catamounts, who have won five of their last six contests. Troy Mitchell was named the Southern Conference's Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 305 yards and three touchdowns while adding 55 yards and two scores on the ground last week.

ABOUT TEXAS A&M (6-3): Murray took a hit to the head late in last week's loss and is questionable, but he may have been replaced regardless after throwing three interceptions in the contest. The Aggies already have clinched a bowl berth but, after Saturday's game, they finish the season at both Vanderbilt and LSU, which could either improve their resume drastically or spell doom for Sumlin. Tra Carson was a bright spot for Texas A&M last week, rushing for 109 yards on 21 carries, but the club is ranked 74th in the nation on the ground and have been unable to generate anything through the air lately.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Allen, who started the first seven games of the season for the Aggies, was relegated to third team last week.

2. The Aggies have finished third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in their first three seasons in the SEC and currently are in sixth place in the West.

3. This is the first meeting between the programs.

PREDICTION: Texas A&M 54, Western Carolina 10
