Wake Forest @ Army preview

Michie Stadium

Last Meeting ( Sep 20, 2014 ) Army 21, Wake Forest 24

If Army is going to notch its first win of the season on Saturday it will have to end a eight-game losing streak against Wake Forest. The Black Knights, who have dropped a pair of tight decisions to open the season, host the Demon Deacons with questions to answer at quarterback and losses in three straight seasons to their opponent.

Wake Forest enters the contest on the heels of a 30-17 setback at Syracuse last week. The Demon Deacons led the Orange at the half but were blanked after intermission in the ACC battle. Wake Forest quarterback John Wolford passed for a career-high 373 yards in the contest but was intercepted three times. Army quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw continues to rack up the rushing yards but he was relieved by A.J. Schurr last week as the Black Knights tried to mount a comeback in 22-17 loss at UConn.

TV: Noon ET, CBS Sports Network. LINE: Wake Forest -5.

ABOUT WAKE FOREST (1-1): Despite the interceptions, Wolford's start is the best in program history. He is ranked eighth in the nation in passing yards with 696, including four touchdowns, and he beat Army last season with a late touchdown pass to E.J. Scott to help the Demon Deacons rally from a seven-point deficit. Wake Forest routed Elon 41-3 in the season opener and 10 receivers have at least two receptions.

ABOUT ARMY (0-2): Bradshaw topped the 100-yard rushing mark for the second consecutive week in last week's loss at UConn, carrying the ball 16 times for 129 yards and a touchdown. Army turned to Schurr in the second half with the Black Knights trailing and the senior, who many thought would be the starter this season, threw a 71-yard touchdown to help Army close the gap to five points. But Schurr was picked off in the final minutes to help the Huskies seal the contest.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Wake Forest won 24-21 at Army last season.

2. Bradshaw is tied for 10th in the nation in rushing with 272 yards and has scored three TDs.

3. Wake Forest is ranked first in the nation in third-down defense, allowing only two conversions in 22 attempts.

PREDICTION: Wake Forest 30, Army 24
